Inara Serra

“Oh, one further addendum. That's the last time you get to call me "whore".-Inara Serra

Every so often a director creates something original and brilliant, fans will always remember Joss Whedon’s Firefly as the “sci-fi western”.

Inara Serra, better known as a high society courtesan for the Union of Allied Planets, chose to leave the Companion House Madrassa to travel the outer rim on Serenity where she leased a private shuttle for workspace.  Many will remember Inara for her chemistry with Mal(captain) that was constantly being disguised by bickering about one another’s careers or personal opinions.

This Asian influenced dress was one of my favorite costume designs in the series.  Played by American Brazilian actress Morena Baccarin, Inara was one of the most mysterious characters in the story.

In the end of all things...

"How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on, when in your heart you begin to understand there is no going back? There are some things time cannot mend. Some hurts that go too deep that have taken hold."-Frodo Baggins, Return of the King

With "The Hobbit" fast approaching, I've been doing some work for WB that I hope I can make available in the near future.

He who must not be named...

"Only I can live forever..."-Lord Voldemort

Tom Marvolo Riddle was once a gifted student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, until he chose a path of immortality which in return required his soul to be strengthened through the act of murder.

With an obsession for blood purity, Voldemort proves his aim to remove the wizarding world of Muggle (non-magical) heritage and to conquer both societies, Muggle and wizarding, to achieve pure-blood dominance. Through his mother's family, he is the last descendant of wizard Salazar Slytherin, one of the four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

An interesting fact, according to an interview with Rowling, "Voldemort" is pronounced with a silent 't' at the end, as in the French word "mort", meaning "death"

Mirror Mirror

"It's important to know when you've been beaten, yes?"-Snow White

Known widely for his artistic visions(Immortals, The Cell), director Tarsem Singh delivers a creative twist to the classic fairy tale Snow White.

It's funny that I originally didn't want to see this movie due to the trailers making it seem so goofy, but I actually admired the film for what it was and really enjoyed the fact that it was inspiring to both children and adults.  Lilly Collins and Armie Hammer stole the show with great chemistry, and Singh's attention to brilliant costume and set designs allowed this film to be one of a kind and unique to audiences.

As far as this reference goes, Collins reminds me a bit of a young Audrey Hepburn and this still managed to capture an expression from her that I feel was sincere to Snow White's true personality.

"The Great Circle of Life"

Client-Acme Archives Direct/Disney Fine Art

This poster was originally created for Disney Fine Art to celebrate the Lion King coming back to theatres a few months ago.  The original art is sold, and this piece is not yet a limited edition, even though I've been told it probably will later on down the road.  So the only thing I can offer right now is this pretty digital file.  Hope you enjoy!

FYI- I probably watched the Lion King everyday when I got home from school in 5th grade, this film was my drive to be an artist as a kid.  To have the opportunity to do work for this masterpiece was an honor.

"The Looney Tunes"

I'm thrilled to announce I'll be working with Warner Brothers on creating a new line of fine art in celebration of acclaimed film maker Chuck Jones.

In a career spanning over 60 years, Jones made more than 300 animated films, winning three Oscars as director and in 1996 an honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement. Among the many awards and recognitions, one of those most valued was the honorary life membership from the Directors Guild of America. Chuck Jones.com

"Hugo"

Production-Paramount Pictures

Paris, 1930's.  A young boy named Hugo lives in the walls of a train station where he searches day and night for answers about his fathers death...

A little while back I began speaking with my rep in regards to creating a piece for Hugo.  We kind of went back and forth about what should be included in the art.  By the time we were done we pretty much squeezed the entire movie in one image.  Hugo is one of those stories where you just can't leave anything out of the art.

Director Martin Scorsese made magic of Georges Melies' career.  Winner of 5 Academy Awards, Hugo was a masterpiece.

The original art will be available through Artinsights Gallery soon.

"Mirror Mirror" Review from Artinsights..

Mirror, Mirror is the first and lighter of two movies based on the tale of Snow White to be released this year. It's a charming, sweet, albeit flawed little confection, worth seeing if you love inventive production and costume design, but especially if you have a soft spot for the work of director Tarsem Singh..

Enjoy the full review here.

"Confined" New Star Wars Art for Acme Archives Direct

This is the first of a new Star Wars series I'm creating for Acme Archives fine art line.  Each character I recreate from the Star Wars universe will be on a specific colored paper to match their personal aesthetic.

When creating "Confined", I wanted a color study that would resemble Tatooine, but also not dominate over the femininity of Princess Leia's beauty.  I found a paper color called "Anise", it immediately matched the mood.

Available as both giclee on paper and canvas limited edition here.

Imprisoned by Jabba the Hutt, Princess Leia awaits her rescue..

Cinderella Art

Client-Acme Archives Direct/Disney Fine Art

As most of you know I’ve been creating a new product line for Acme Archives’ Disney and Star Wars Fine Art programs. I probably have around 10 completed pieces that will be debuting throughout the year.

The Rapunzel in my gallery is the first of the series to be used as a Limited Edition. This Cinderella is not published by Acme, the editor wanted to hold off on it due to it’s similarities between my art and the special edition dvd cover. So I’ll be throwing another Cinderella in the mix later down the road.  The original art is available.
